Looking Ahead, But Not Too Far...

As we are coming into the final weeks of the season it is also time to start preparing and thinking about next season and how we can improve. Taking opportunities to increase your “tool box” and getting in some time on the mat during the off season is a big step towards success next year. That said, don’t lose focus on your goals for the remainder of this season.

Freestyle/Greco season information has been posted on the website and all wrestlers are encouraged to attend as much as possible. Try to get to a couple of tournaments over the spring and summer months and we know you will see improvements in your wrestling ability.

Additionally we are pleased to have Sammie Henson back this year to run a camp at Skyline. Coach Henson has a much decorated history in wrestling and coaching including World Champion, Olympic Silver Medalist and he is currently the Assistant Head Coach at the University of Missouri and the Head Coach of the Sunkist Kids Wrestling Club. The Missouri Tigers are currently ranked 7th in the nation with a dual meet record of 8-1 overall. This camp is a big piece of our fund-raising efforts and attendance is strongly encouraged because of the world class instruction you will receive.

Let’s continue to work hard and take our successes into the KingCo Tournament at Skyline on February 1st and 2nd.

2012-2013 Season to Start Soon!

We as a coaching staff are looking forward to the begining of a new season next week. That said, we are disappointed that currently we only have 8 (yes, eight) athletes registered. This is not looking like a good start to the season. So, start by scheduling your physical with your physician and download this packet. Once you have all the appropriate paperwork taken care of, get payment to Mrs. Lorrain (ASB Bookkeeper) then turn in all the appropriate paperwork to Mrs. Speyer (Athletics Secretary). This must be done by Thursday, during both lunch times & after school until 3:30pm.

In the mean time (and for those of you who have already registered) look around the website, it has a new look. And let me know if there is anything that you would like to see on it or links that are broken.

The calendar has been posted as well. These dates and events, particularly the tournaments, is TENTATIVE, but close. We will update the calendar as it solidifies but as always we will communicate changes at practices as well. The official league schedule is also likely to change some so we recommend subscribing to it so that you receive updates as they happen.

One last thought:

  • If you have friends that you know are wrestling, pass this information about registration on and get them to sign up with the website.
  • If you have friends that should wrestle, pass this information about registration on and get them to sign up with the website.

Recruiting from their peers is very important.

Part of a successful season is filling in all our weight classes. It is hard to win dual meets when we give up 6-18 points at weigh-ins because we can't fill the classes. All athletes are welcome, especially the big ones .

Be on the lookout for more information about the start of the season.
